Top Four Brazilian Cocktails To Make At Home

Unless you have been living under a rock, you’ll know that the Olympics are currently taking place and what better way to enjoy them with your very own Brazilian cocktail?

Caipirinha

This was a given. Made with Cachaca, a Brazilian spirit distilled from sugarcane juice. Estimates put the local consumption at 1.5 billion litres a year!

  • Two teaspoons of sugar
  • 4 muddled lime wedges
  • 50ml Cachaca
  • Combine all the ingredients in a lowball glass and churn with crushed ice

Caipiroska

As above but substitute the cachaca with vodka.

  • Combine all the ingredients in a lowball glass and churn with crushed ice

Batida

Another very popular tipple in Brazil, again featuring the cacahaca.

  • 50ml Cachaca
  • 100ml Fruit Juice or Coconut Water
  • 25ml Sugar Syrup
  • Combine all the ingredients in a blender and blend with crushed ice

Brazilian Old Fashioned

Yep, Cachaca again. Take the original Old Fashioned and use cachaca as your base spirit.

  • 50ml Cachaca
  • 1 Brown Sugar Cube
  • Dashes of Angostura Bitters
  • Soak a brown sugar cube in bitters and muddle in a lowball glass with 5-10ml of cachaca. Stir with a 2 ice cubes for a minute. Add two more ice cubes and another 5-10ml of cachaca and stir again. Repeat this process until the glass is full, will take about ten minutes.
